The corrections officer has become one of the key pieces in the stability of the penal system. They were always there, but with the incorporation of companies in the development and maintenance of convicted criminals, these officers have been the buffer between peace and chaos.

Law states that a person has to pay their time and we have seen that the prison is a world that is very much unlike the outside world. The main factors are that there are many levels of criminals and many of these are weathered individuals that have not only faced the harsh world of the streets or corporate world, but have also dealt with the underbelly of the world behind the iron gates.

Some have seen that the corrections officer has a profession that is very dangerous. This is even more the case with the fact that most of them don't carry firearms. Yet the corrections officers often undergo education for a degree that can show them ways to use their brains more than brawn. They become skilled at defusing situations and also draining the potential nightmares that can come about with the brutish mentality that some hardened criminals can have.

Many states have allowed the used of company prisons in place of the state prisons. This is to help with over population and also that the companies can invest in quality officers that can contend with many situations that can arise. Some correction officers will continue their training at the incentive of the companies and can become more specialized or even focus on the law enforcement administration. The administration is the foundation to the governing body of the prison, the interaction with the outside world, and can even be a launching board for greater areas of a career. Some have been able to use the administrative course to become warden and even move onto positions in state government.

Prisons may be a place where people are locked up, but they can also be a place where a person can start a career that can have a good impact in many people's lives. It is all depending on the commitment that the person is willing to undertake and the goals that they have in their lives. As mentioned, some have used these positions for something loftier, while others have made the prison a home of sorts. Just because it is a place for lawbreakers doesn't always mean it is a place that is home to the heathens of the nation.
